Getting promoted should feel like a win. For many women in Indian workplaces, it also feels like impostor syndrome with a new designation.

Day one in the new role, you may still get pinged for the old tasks. Say this early: “I’m transitioning ownership of X to Y by Friday. For new work in this area, please loop in Z.” Clarity is kinder than silent resentment.

Block 30 minutes in week one to write your new “definition of done.” What decisions can you make alone? What needs your manager? Ambiguity is where confidence leaks.

Find one peer at your new level — not only for gossip, for calibration. Ask how they run 1:1s, how they say no, and what they stopped doing after they were promoted.

Your promotion is not a personality upgrade. It is a scope upgrade. Dress the part if that helps you, but measure yourself by decisions shipped, people unblocked, and problems you prevent — not by how loud you sound in meetings.
